Alicare Medical Management (AMM), a national leader in care management solutions that promotes cost savings and client satisfaction, is celebrating 20 years of meeting URACs quality-based standards.

URAC sets the industry standard for quality in the health care arena, so we are extremely proud to hold four URAC accreditations for our programs, says Claire Levitt, president of Alicare Medical Management. The fact we have met URACs quality standards for two decades reflects our undying commitment to providing top-tier services to our clients. AMM holds URAC-approved accreditation for its Utilization Management, Case Management, 24/7 Nurse Helpline and Independent Review services.

Receiving its first URAC accreditation in 1994 for the Health Utilization Management Accreditation Program, Alicare Medical Management has served as a resource and beta test site to URAC for several other URAC accreditation programs, including Case Management, Health Call Center, and Independent Review Standards.

By applying for and receiving URAC accreditation for 20 years, Alicare Medical Management has demonstrated a commitment to quality healthcare, says Kylanne Green, URAC president and CEO. Quality healthcare is crucial to our nations welfare and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards and undergo rigorous evaluation by an independent accrediting body.

URAC offers a wide range of quality benchmarking programs and services that model the rapid changes in the healthcare system and provide a symbol of excellence for organizations to validate their commitment to quality and accountability.

Alicare Medical Management has helped URAC develop an array of quality standards over the years. According to Garry Carneal, JD, MA, former URAC president & CEO, Alicare Medical Management has been a leading innovator in the care management field for decades, so it was a natural fit to look to them to better understand emerging trends as URAC developed new accreditation programs. Among other contributions, Alicare Medical Management provided critical insights on how case management and 24/7 nurse triage programs should be run and operated when URAC was developing accreditation programs covering those activities.

URAC takes a collaborative, educational approach to accreditation. During the application process, customer service and support is available to provide assistance to applicants. New applicants are encouraged to attend a standards workshop where they can learn more about the standards and the process first hand. URAC accreditation requires applicants to submit policies, procedures and other organizational information to URAC followed by an onsite review. Once an application is received by URAC, a primary reviewer is assigned and coordinates all aspects of the review until completion.

Dr. Jack Stephens, the veterinarian who founded the first U.S. pet insurance agency and issued the first pet insurance policy to celebrity TV dog Lassie in the 1980s, said the companys 7-year anniversary on Sept. 17 is particularly special to him because it also falls within National Pet Health Insurance Month and within the same year as the 30th anniversary of U.S. pet insurance as a whole.

It amazes me to reflect on the introduction of the countrys cat and dog insurance industry, Dr. Stephens recalled. As a veterinarian, a client once brought her dog into my practice and decided to euthanize her instead of providing treatment because of the cost alone.

Dr. Stephens said he ran into the family a few weeks later, and the clients young daughter remembered him as the man who killed her dog.

This encounter is what ignited my decision to find a better solution than euthanasia for pet owners who cannot afford to treat their sick animals, Dr. Stephens said. And so, U.S. pet insurance was born.

After pioneering the nations pet health insurance industry, Dr. Stephens was an integral part in the formation of NAPHIA, which is a comprised of pet health insurance companies and industry professionals who aim to set and keep industry transparency and standards high.

Dr. Stephens said the pet insurance agency plans to celebrate its anniversary during NAPHIAs National Pet Health Insurance month with a veterinarian Yappy Hour open house event in September at the Pets Best Insurance headquarters.

CDI College has produced a brand new video that celebrates the continued success rate of graduates from the Dental Assisting program at the colleges campuses in Burnaby and Surrey, BC. Incorporating time lapse footage, the video focuses on an artist sketching scenes to illustrate the advantage CDI College dental grads have as they prepare to enter the workforce.

The passing rates say a lot about the graduates and the Dental Assisting programs at both campuses, says Larry Heinzlmeir, Vice President of Marketing for CDI College. Grads and faculty should be filled with great pride and a sense of accomplishment whenever a class achieves 100% pass rate on the NDAEB exams.

Dental Assisting program graduates from the Burnaby and Surrey campuses earned a 100% passing rate on the NDAEB exam in 2011. They also beat the national average for first-time exam writers, with the Burnaby class beating the average score by eight percent.

The NDAEB exams ensure that candidates meet the national standards in knowledge and skill required by provincial and territorial regulatory authorities for recognition as dental assistants. Dental grads from CDI College have consistently obtained between 97-100% pass rates on the exam since the programs inception in 2007. Success on the exam is the first step for grads to obtain their Certified Dental Assistant license in BC.

CDI Colleges Dental Assisting program is the only private dental assisting program in BC to be accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC). Graduates are only required to write the theory exam needed for licensing.
