Hahaha I love how Americans are so afraid of socialized medicine. Canada doesn’t have socialized medicine by the way, and our system is absolutely wonderful. I’ve never had to wait for anything in Canada and I’ve been treated by amazing doctors. I feel so sorry for my relatives who live in the United States, where the insurance companies have way too much control over people’s lives. Too bad American’s are still viewing health as a commodity.
what a bunch of baloney. I come from that area and French is the official language, not English. The Emergency is not better than here. Worse at County Hosp. near Stocton had to wait 14 hours and not seen. The CLSC for community health care and home help.Every area has one and it is not a great place to find an initial doctor. Just look one up in the phonebook. You can pick any doctor and have the best specialists at your own choice, not controlled by the HMO.
Ok the big question I have for someone from Canada–do you sue your doctors for things that should be common sense? Like your sister died because she took her prescriptions wrong and had a bad reaction–do you admit that sis really should have read the instructions and taken the meds properly or do you sue the doctor for not calling her daily to remind her not to take ‘med a’ less than 4 hours before ‘drug b’?

It’s against the Constitution for the government to take over healthcare, bailout banks & other BIG businesses at tax payers expense. It’s time for a revolution.

5. You didnt use the private clinic.
Why? Because you couldnt afford it for this experiment?

Ironic… You choosed to not try the private clinic because of a money issue.
6. Private clinics.
There is no problem having private clinics, but the governmental polices of having them have to be in such a way that both doctors, nurses etc and the system benefits. And that is usually about economics. Having a balance to avoid pricing bonanza.
3. Private insurance.
Most people who can afford it will have private insurance on the side IF they feel they need it. Dont want to wait etc. The woman you talked to clearly had issues with the system and I dont know the two sided back story, but she dosent like like the type that could afford it anyway. So ironically she still gets a better deal for her family in Canada despite the error in judgment by the Canadian system.
4. Treatment.
If you cant pay you still get treatment, unlike US.

1. Tax keeps inflation down. Whats important is buying power. The reason prices are much lower in USA on sold gods is because the average American has less buying power than Canadians. Example, wiki minimum wage on both countries.
2. Waiting.
If the system is based on the majority having a personal doctor to call then its obviously going to be hard to get proper treatment for minor things when its not an emergency.
Malpractice is a totally separate issue.

@Brrianne That’s one way to look at it I suppose. That we all just selfish people who want to indulge ourselves. (That tendency is definitely found in America, but i’m sure you could also find in anywhere else. I’m quite sure.)
Or, could it be that we simply want to spend our money the way we see fit. Having the ability to choose what we make of our work is part of human nature, buddy. To take away a persons ability to make that choice is asking for trouble after awhile.
@Albyiscool That CATO report, (which i’m familiar with) criticizes the method behind WHO’s overall ranking list of countries health care systems, theyre methods may or may not be flawed. Regardless, WHO otherwise provides a butt-load of factual objective data however, that any sane person can read and judge for themselves (such as, how often people in certain countries get INDIVIDUAL DISEASES). And it is not just WHO. U.S. falls behind in EVERY study done on the topic that i’ve EVER seen.

Wow I live just outside of Toronto, and the clinics close early on the weekends, at around 5 pm, which is a pain in the ass, but they are open on weekends. Usually the best time to go too because they are dead and there are virtually no wait times.
I’m Republican, and I’m not racist or Christian. o: Shocking, I know. We do exist.
