- Medicare Tax? Health Care for the Elderly? Let’s look at the facts about the proposed Medicare Tax … and a medical care program for the aged that already exists! What’s the hurry here? The supporters of the proposed Medicare Tax would have you believe that passage of this controversial bill is urgent … that persons over 5 are deprived of needed medical care because they can’t pay for it. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Kerr-Mills Law, passed by Congress in 1960 – enabled individual states to guarantee to every elderly person who needs help the health care he or she requires. We call this health program … Health Opportunity for the Elderly. Thousands of people every day are being helped by its generous benefits. And unlike Medicare, which would substantially increase your Social Security Tax payroll deductions, existing programs are being paid for now by a part of your present tax dollar! Medicare? NO. Health Care for the Elderly? YES! ….. 1964 American Medical Association Ad, A5157.

I’d rather seen America become socialist before this bill is passed… Oh wait… It pretty much already is… This bill is dangerous… It shouldn’t exist.
I hope it doesn’t get passed.
That’s nice.
So the bill gets put in now and people get taxed for it. But no results show up for several years.
And the people who make more money just get screwed while the people who do nothing get handouts.
I don’t mind them get insurance for free or cheap, nbut not when we could be doing it with say money spent on marijuana busts, and senseless bonuses to the higher ups in the gov’t i.e.
Senate
Justices
Blah, blah, blah.
So much wasted money.
As for how long health care reform has been trying to happen, it’s actually been in discussion since Truman.
I almost couldn’t watch this because I’m sick to my stomach over this, I have so many concerns, I understand what is included in THIS bill but what could come after it terrifies me. Working in a physician’s office, I already see where the changes are happening and for employees at hospitals and some of the smaller practicies, this is not a good thing. I do hope it all ends well, though
and I like that you summed it up for everyone who hasn’t been actually researching it
From the little I know about this Health Care bill I’m actually in support of it. It’s a good step towards what other countries have but b/c of the Rep/Dem split will probably not get much closer to that anytime soon. I think I’ll have more to say on this once I know how it actually affects me.
As for where I get my news: these days it’s mainly online (mostly twitter/facebook/youtube). That’s pretty much b/c I no longer have regular access to TV.
See the only thing I hate about the whole Bill, is that the people had no say or vote on if they wanted the bill or not. We cannot afford this Bill considering we have a war that is being payed for with our tax money. We are going to go bankrupt. This is only going to speed up or maintain tax money spending if we stay or pull out of the war.

@Changeisgood12 What you said about illegal immigrants, that was true in the bill’s proposal the FIRST time around. It’s not true for the bill which was just passed. About being charged if you don’t have health insurance, I touched on that at 2:11. The Individual Mandate.
Humm what about the big issue about Illegal immigrants being able to benefit from this Bill, you seem to missed that little one. Also being fined for not having health insurance.
has anyone seen saw 6? i think its plot has influenced the bill as weird as it sounds. as well as michael moores Sicko doc
In my opinion we have too many people in this country to support this bill. And it’s taking away our freedom and privacy. Most of us already get too much taken out of our checks. For me it’s like 24 percent of my income just in takes.
And the best part is… by the time I retire there will be no social security left, yet i’ve funded it
I am in the UK. It’s free here
(Well, paid through taxes!) x
YouTube is VERY educational. Just the other day one of my professors said, “And now I have proven once again that YouTube educates us all!”
Good overview – I’m a librarian and I get my news from Yahoo, my local daily paper and (if I really want more) the New York Times.
I’m on the fence honestly. The good thing is that millions of people who didn’t have healthcare before will now be able to afford it and also give it to their kids. On the downside I’ve never supported penalizing those who still can’t afford even the gov’t option. I’ll probably be on the fence until the bill actually goes into affect. And I get my news all over the place, usally the Internet and the News, also friends.
Well there goes my big Xmas celebration for 2013……*sigh*
Travis, you did a really good job on this video. I appreciate the research that you clearly put into this. Thank you.
Oh, and I get, like, 100% of my news from YouTube.
I get most of my news from three places: Yahoo, The News, and Youtube. Aaaaaand… occasionally I randomly start looking things up.
Sorry your opinion is pretty clear, and it kind of pisses me off.
1. In general, I’m in favor of it. I think it as a long way to go before it becomes a flawless plan, but its a step in the right direction.
2. Political news: politico(dot)com. My 11th grade government teacher introduced me to it last year and now I can’t stop reading it. Environmental news: ecogeek(dot)org, what kind of obsessed Youtuber would I be if I didn’t read it. lol Everything else: Google or Youtube (seriously, what are people thinking when they say you can’t learn anything from it?)
starts in 2014. good thing the world won’t even be around for christmas 2012
Swedens entire population has equal access to health care service and it’s financed primarily through taxes.
After watching this video I can say that I’m totally for the Health Care Reform Bill.
I get my info from all sorts of different places, TV, papers, YouTube, Twitter…
And, are you willing to risk being stampeeded by a horde of angry opponents and tell us what you might think of it?
