I’m doing to have to disagree with the president here.
“Obama promised he would not break his campaign pledge of no tax increase for the middle class and rejected the notion that a requirement that all Americans own insurance – and would fine them up to $3,800 per family if they do not — amounts to a backdoor tax increase.
“For us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase,” Obama said on ABC’s “This Week.” “What it’s saying is that we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you any more than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase.” ”
If I have no insurance and go to the hospital, they have to treat me, they simple send me and bill instead of an insurance company. Assuming that ALL those who do not have insurance are dishonest, deceitful and would never pay their bills is a poor platform for healthcare reform. Also, I do believe that sending me a bill for services NOT rendered to the price of up to $3,800 should be against the law. I have to pay to NOT be sick. To not need healthcare?

@ Dave: So even if I don’t want it, I don’t need it, your telling me I HAVE TO get it? Where is the freedom in that?
I ment Steve. Sorry.
@ Everyone: Your assuming that ALL who are uninsured will NOT pay their bills. This just simply isn’t true. How many illegal immigrants that sneak across the border to birth a child on American soil have insurance? How much does THAT cost us? Or everytime they go to the hospital? Can we tally up THAT cost?
@ Joshua: That article was write Sunday, October 26th, 2008. Even before the election. I’m asking about HR 3200 as it stands now.

Obama has demanded people take personal responsibility and get health insurance.
Sounds reasonable to me. Right now, my health insurance is $1000/year higher because of the cost of caring for those without insurance.
So, those who can afford it now have to take responsibility and buy it. Those who can’t get a tax credit so they can now cover their families. Fantastic.
What I want to know is, if people are so poor that they can’t afford health insurance, how in the Sam Helll are they going to afford the fine of $3800? This is not like car insurance. You can choose to not own a car.
If you CAN’T pay the bill, then the hospital sends the bill to the Government. Those who can’t pay their own bill ARE making others foot the bill.
Edit to Well Duh: That fine would only be to people who have children that aren’t covered with some sort of medical insurance:

As part of the Medicaid disproportionate share program hospitals receive financial assistance to help recover cost for treating the uninsured. $11.3 billion is the budget for fiscal year 2009.
It is a known fact that cost is passed on to the insured in our insurance premiums and other cost because of people that are uninsured.
Yeah, he promised not to ration health care for the disabled and elderly to, but he still did it, and he claimed he would never ration health care but claims he will have to make more cuts to medicare in order to create a universal health care system. So how many lies and contradicting statements does he have to make before you figure out he is a liar? It is to late now, just sit back and watch the show and pray he doesn’t completely destroy this country before he gets out of office. He claimed he is going to fix medicare next year, that scares the hell out of me and it should scare you to. People have been trying to tell the libs it isn’t going to be free, and I have been trying to tell people the ones who are going to be hurt the most are the ones who need the most. SS was not designed to carry everyone. It was designed to carry the elderly and disabled. If you want to fix it, ration medicaid. Only give it to pregnant women, children and those who have serious illness. This would cut costs in half.
