    @ArcticSlicer great comment!!!

  • TheShamanSZ:

    Amen. The country with the lowest abortion rates in the west is the Netherlands, after all. Incidentally, they are also the country with the lowest teenage pregnancies.

    The real reasons abortions are so hyped up are that they are so divisive (so can be made a political issue), and there was a political movement in the 1980s that stressed their importance and brought it up.

  • ArcticSlicer:

    Why is there always so much bitching about abortions? Why isn’t there more talk about the real problems such as lack of education that teaches people to use contraceptives properly. Why isn’t there more discussion about wages, or lack thereof, that forces parents away from their families forcing children to be raised be the TV set. We can solve the problem of unwanted pregnancies when solve the problems of education and poverty.

    There is no cure for indoctrination when the indoctrinated have no clue of their own indoctrination. (treatment not covered in the the current law, btw)

    GO Rep. Jan Schakowsky… FIVE STARS TO YOU !

  • steeldragonflames:

    That’s kind of like Newt Gingrich saying about Democrats passing the health care bill, They will have destroyed their party much as Lyndon Johnson shattered the Democratic Party for 40 years by passing civil rights legislation.

  • attnMoFo:

    Rachel just equated the civil rights movement with the Democratic push for healthcare. What a crock of dung. Rachel just promoted the virtues of the government and the Democratic Party. Tool comes to mind.

    After listening to this segment, I understood it to mean that current law regarding abortion will not change. In otherwords, Stupak didn’t hurt the legislation he just stalled it. Thoughts?

  • SquallCloud:

    Are people hurting for abortions? I mean I’m pro-choice but if she’s saying that there is no further restriction on abortions so can’t we move on?

  • attnMoFo:

    What the hell is all of this nonsense? Why is Rachel perpetuating all the noise? Schakowky voted for this corporate fascist bill. Why is firedoglake perpetuating the nonsense that is MSNBC?

  • mmmtoblerone:

    Now the pro-choice caucus is talking about adding fetal anomaly to rape, incest and life of mother instead of just trying to get it in line with the Supreme Court? I’m not even an abortion voter, but I am disgusted that they would throw such a big part of their staunch supporters under the bus like that. The Dems did more to restrict abortion than the Repubs have done in decades. How is that okay when people voted for you on the basis of your support for abortion rights?

    Explain THIS oh ever so giddy Obamabots. Make your case or be thought of on the same order as Bushies babies. C’mon, prove you aren’t as idol worshiping as Shrubs idolizers, surprise me.
