Representative Alan Grayson (D-FL) ventures into a hostile Tea Bag Rally and talks to Lydia – a well informed critic of the Health Care Overhaul. They debate the plan in some detail. This is one of the few recorded instances of civil discourse during the entire Health Care Debate available on YouTube

The thing is, people that are uninsured generally didn’t apply themselves. They never tried to make something of their lives and as a result didn’t make enough money to pay for insurance in case something happened to them. When something does happen, they come whining saying how they have never had a chance. They have always have had a chance and never took it. So now the productive, tax paying members of society have to pay for someone not feeling like applying themselves.
She has valid concerns, as do all the people opposing the bill. But the long and short of it is, Rep. Grayson had a very good point. If you get hit by a bus, and you don’t have insurance, you have to pay all the medical expenses. If you have a job it’s not a problem, but you could lose it as a result of the accident. Then even with a payment plan, you can’t afford to pay. The hospital system then ends up footing the bill. People need to be responsible for themselves, not leave it to chance.
“everyone NOW has access to healthcare”, the emergency room; is like saying, if everyone has a gun, we don’t need government intervention and force a dept of military on us.
@pcsassy03 to summarize this video interview, what she basically said is she doesn’t care about the well being of anyone else, but her own. as long as she can afford health insurance and what she cares to cover for herself, those unable to afford it can die, with freedom, under a bridge or wherever the hell else.
Tea baggers need to stfu. Emergency Rooms will care for those in dire help, but without insurance or lack of insurance, the patients will leave the ER with a massive medical bill many would need to file bankruptcy to avoid collection.
Alan Grayson, you are one of the few voices of reason inside Congress. Keep on keepin’ on.
AW YEAH SHE TEABAGS ME BABY
brainwashed tea bagger
ea Party” is a Big Lie. It’s not the simple 1700s. We now have millions of life-saving water-food-air-safety, police military, etc. provided by ‘big government’ (We The People). During the real Tea Party there were no freeways, bridges nor school that allow real tax-paying patriots to work & contribute to the superior progress this nation has. I’ve never whined about paying taxes as without regulations many of us wouldn’t be here. Due to Cheney’s deregulations the gulf is an oil pool.”
She brought the very best arguments fox news could equip her with. And jumped to different points when her claim was adressed. I was impressed with her ability as a layperson, but she’s just one of those 25% of Americans who are dittoheads and will never change her mind. regaurdless the evedince against her.
Her arguments hold no water.
@seth817 yea, but its not like they’ll be charged 50% extra
is it true that women need 50% more health care than men?
People need to think about something. On every occasion that has polarized people in America it is always based on the fact that the American people have been lied to…Vietnam, Lyndon Johnson (The Gulf of Tonken), Watergate (Richard Nixon) Iran-Contra, Ronald Reagan (The Sandanistas) Iraq, Afghanistan, Financial Crisis, George W. Bush (Weapons of Mass Destruction)
@IngloriusBastard11 I find that it is just all the money our govt exports vs. addressing first and foremost domestic issues and domestic security issues is just sickening. Just being older now, I’m finding both Iraq and Afghanistan were huge mistakes however it just seems like our Congress has overlooked the most obvoius solutions ad have made things more complicated and chaotic that it needs to be.
It’s erroneous to think that insurance is Health Care? WHAT??
it’s for sure an informed debate but her arguments are all falling appart… She’s no match for Grayson
Lydia isn’t that infomed, she has more opinions than facts.
I have to give props to Lydia for being well informed but she’s no match for Grayson.
It’s about time the Teapartiers had someone who raised the level of her argument rather than the level of her voice.
If people are worried about buying an insurance policy so that we, the taxpayers, don’t have to take care of their medical bills then maybe they should all just not pay auto insurance since that is also mandatory in most states in the country.
We have no problem with sending billions to Iraq, Isreal, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Mexico but we have an issue with establishing a better healthcare system? What the hell is wrong with this picture?
@IngloriusBastard11 The reason the Republicans were booted out in 2008 was because of their careless spending. The same reason the Dems will be booted out in November. The bill has some good points, but the consequences for what it actually is maybe devastating.
@xNeptuneRisingx and yet you use the term “teabagger”.
Her point is that she why should the state be allowed to coerce her by force to buy a healthcare policy that she doesn’t want. And it’s a good question. Grayson doesn’t believe in freedom and he’s so arrogant he has no qualms about having the state force others to pay for programs he likes. There’s a statist for you, and he has the gall to question the morals of others?
This girl didn’t say anything different than any of the other teabaggers or conservative pundits. She just kept regurgitating the same talking points. It’s sad that poeple can’t discern the difference between someone who is articulate vs someone who is knowledgeable
