Just look at the supposedly automatic Medicare cuts contained in the Sustainable Growth Rate formula enacted to constrain out-of-control Medicare spending. Every year since 2003, Congress has waived the cuts.
If Medicare has so much fraud NOW, why do we need new legislation to curb the fraud??

Obama doesn’t really have a plan. He is just talking. Don’t you think if Medicare is so full of fraud, he should fix that first before he does anything? Kind of like painting a car so it looks nice and new, but not bothering to fix the flat tires.
Obama probably intends to download the costs to the states, if you ask me.
Download: put the costs formerly assumed by a higher level of government on a lower level of government. (Admittedly, this term is used more in Canada than the USA, but it would sock states with costs they can’t afford).
They know they can’t cut $500 Billion from medicare. They just had to get the CBO to give them the numbers they wanted. Just like when they said the bill only costs $850 billion. They pushed back the year that benefits would be payed. They’re just playing with the numbers.

Let’s assume that there is 500 Billion in waste:
1) Doesn’t that tell you right there that the GOVERNMENT SHOULDN’T BE RUNNING IT?
2) Shouldn’t that money go BACK to the American Tax payer? – Why is it even a POSSIBILITY that he should be RE-ALLOCATING IT?

Many Physicians right now refuse to accept new Medicare patients…..how could Obama even think that many more Physicians would not also refuse to accept any new Medicare patients after Obama cuts 500 Billion dollars more from Medicare Benefits ??
—–We don’t need new legislation. I investigated Medicaid & Medicare Fraud for 28 years during which time as a State Investigator I sometimes worked cases jointly with Federal Health & Human Services Federal Investigators who investigated Medicare Fraud.
As a State Investigator working many undercover cases, I sometimes uncovered Providers ( Doctors, etc. ) who overbilled both Medicaid & Medicare fraudulently. When we made an arrest, I would sometimes get a call from a Federal Investigator telling me that the U.S. Attorney wanted him to accompany me ( even though I was the undercover, I sometimes did make the arrest ) on the arrest and I, in turn, would ask the Special Assistant Attorney General if they minded that the Federal Investigator got an ” assist ” on my arrest.
If Obama is only finding out now that there is enormous fraud within Medicare……he must have had his head in the sand for the past few years.

Not sure what you are saying in your last comments – “why do we need new legislation to curb the fraud?” The biggest problem with the medicare system is the lack of oversight in years past that has allowed criminal activities to siphon off billions and billions of medicare dollars. The new health care plan closes a lot of the loop holes in the current medicare program cutting out the open invitations to fraud. It also improves records keeping reducing billions of lost dollars to poor administrative practices. I would have to ask why some people seem to think the health bill is being developed in a vacuum. We have the benefit of knowing the problems other countries have had with universal health care and we are building a program designed to service the citizens of our country while avoiding the known problems of similar programs. If we leave improvement of our health care system up to the same people who failed to fix it in the past 8 years, the TV and Radio talk show hosts or the insurance and pharmaceutical companies, we will be no better then we are now but we will end up paying the ever increasing costs of health care while more and more people loose their benefits, end up in bankrupts trying to care for their families, or dying because they can not afford health care. .
It will be hard as he still has to pay off the billions and billions of dollars the Bush Administration borrowed from China, the costs of fixing the other problems Bush created, and lets not forget part of the costs of the deficit includes the first Bail Out money Bush gave out with no strings attached, accountability or checks and balances; and that no one now seems to know where it went – or the billions of dollars we lost with Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy. .
