Advance Exchange:

Failed Kindles: Canopy will ship a replacement Kindle to you. You will also receive a pre-paid shipping label to send back the broken Kindle. A valid credit card is required on file to process an advance exchange. If you don’t return the failed Kindle within 30 days, you will be charged the price of the replacement device, not to exceed the original purchase price. Simply return the failed Kindle within 30 days to avoid any charges.*

    I have had 5 kindles over the years and the newest is the HDX. I have had to have Kindles replaced for various reasons and I have to say this protection plan is worth its weight in gold. You call Amazon, let them know your Kindle is not working right or broken, the rep had my new one to me the next day!! She even called to make sure I had no problems setting up it!! What kind of company provides that type of service anymore?? AMAZON.. Oh by the way.. she spoke true English!!

    I’m normally not a fan of extended warranties. In general, they just up the cost of whatever I’m buying and offer little in return. Plus, things that I consider unacceptable, often don’t meet the threshold of a stringent warranty claim. My old Thrive started acting up just after the 2 year mark, and probably would not have qualified for an exchange under this warranty’s terms. Yet to me, it was a sign of things to come and dwindling functionality. So I opted for an upgrade with the Fire HDX.

    I sprung for this warranty because I was impressed with the exchange program. Motorola has a similar policy, and I’m a big fan of it. Basically, if you need a replacement, they take your credit card and place a hold on it for the value of the replacement. The new gizmo is sent free of charge, and prior to you needing to send back the defective item; so you never have to be without. Just return the defective gizmo before the deadline to avoid being charged for the replacement. Perfect scenario in my book, though naturally, I hope to never have the need to use it.

    I wish this warranty was for 3 years, instead of just 2, but I’m still happy with it. Covering accidental damage is a nice touch, and definitely could be useful if a klutz moment causes a cracked screen, or something.

    According to the TOS, my warranty begins when my HDX ships, plus 2 weeks to allow for actual shipping time. Just download a copy via the product description, and save or print. I even sent it to my Kindle library so I’d never lose it. Here’s the important stuff about the warranty:

    “Term of Coverage:

    Portable Computing Devices Purchased from Amazon.com: The term and coverage of this Plan commences on the date of product shipment as indicated on your shipping confirmation and continues for the period indicated on your sales receipt. The Plan is inclusive of the manufacturer’s warranty; it does not replace the manufacturer’s warranty, but provides certain additional benefits during the term of the manufacturer’s warranty. After the manufacturer’s warranty expires, the Plan continues to provide some of the manufacturer’s benefits as well as certain additional benefits listed within the Plan’s terms and conditions. The term of this Plan will be extended an additional two (2) weeks to allow for product delivery.

    Limit of Liability: You can get up to three (3) replacements under this plan or one (1) refund of the purchase price you paid for the product, including sales tax. The total liability under this Plan is the purchase price you paid for the product, including sales tax. In the event that we replace the product three (3) times or issue one (1) refund to you, we shall have satisfied all obligations owed under this Plan and the Plan shall terminate. For any single claim, the limit of liability under this Plan is the least of the cost of (1) replacement with a product with similar features or (2) the price that you paid for the product including sales tax (excluding any delivery charge).

    Failure to Return the Product Non-return Charge: The product approved for replacement must be returned to us at our expense. You must return the product as directed by us per the shipping instructions or you will be charged a non-returned product charge up to the retail price that you paid for the product, including applicable taxes. You can avoid this by simply returning the product as directed.

    Manufacturer’s Responsibilities: Parts and services covered during the manufacturer’s warranty period are the responsibility of the manufacturer.

    Deductible: There is no deductible required to obtain service for your covered product.

    Replacement Product: We may replace your product with a NEW, REMANUFACTURED, OR A PRODUCT OF LIKE KIND AND QUALITY THAT PERFORMS TO THE FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS OF THE ORIGINAL PRODUCT”

    >>Number 7 of What’s Not Covered is ….um… interesting…. Let’s hope it never comes to this:

    “WHAT IS NOT COVERED: …(7) LOSS OR DAMAGE DUE TO WAR, INVASION OR ACT OF FOREIGN ENEMY, HOSTILITIES, CIVIL WAR, REBELLION, RIOT, STRIKE, LABOR DISTURBANCE, LOCKOUT OR CIVIL COMMOTION;”

    Bottom Line – all things considered, this is a good extended warranty at a decent price. Basically, a warranty is money spent on something I hope to never use; oxymoron for sure. Glad to have it; hope I never need it. Happy! ;oD
